With over 28 years of clinical and leadership experience in emergency nursing and critical care, Dr. McDonald brings a profound depth of expertise, dedication, and compassion to her work. A Board-Certified Emergency Nurse and certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) through the Texas Office of the Attorney General, she has conducted nearly 800 medical forensic examinations and frequently provides expert testimony advancing justice for survivors of sexual assault while promoting trauma-informed care at the bedside and beyond.

Beyond her clinical practice, she is deeply engaged in academic and community education, particularly in the areas of sexual assault and human trafficking awareness, addressing these critical issues across the lifespan and among diverse victim populations. Her active involvement in the community by delivering education on trauma and violence to nurses, judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, victim advocates, juries, and families does more than inform, it transforms. In the classroom, she equips nursing students with the skills to navigate emotionally charged, high-stress environments with empathy, professionalism, and confidence. Her ability to translate complex, real-world challenges into powerful learning opportunities for nursing students marks her as an educator of rare and exceptional caliber. Beyond the classroom, Dr. McDonald remains deeply connected to her community and clinical roots. Her outreach and education efforts around human trafficking and sexual assault prevention underscore her commitment to public service and population health. She brings light to some of the darkest corners of our healthcare system doing so with courage, empathy, and a drive to create lasting change.
